Astor Theatre, 31 May
The Perth Symphony Orchestra are collaborating with WAAPA Gospel Choir to celebrate the music of Stevie Wonder and Aretha Franklin.
Stevie Wonder: singer, songwriter, producer, and multi-instrumentalist. A child prodigy, he is unequivocally one of the most critically and commercially successful musical performers of our time, having recorded more than 30 top ten hits and having received 25 Grammy Awards. You’d be hard-pressed to find anyone who hasn’t heard his name and by extension his beautiful, from-the-heart, soulful songs.
Aretha Franklin: The Queen of Soul. An absolutely formidable vocalist. The first ever female performer to be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, one of the best-selling musical artists of all time, and rated by Rolling Stone as the number one greatest singer of all time. Epitomising soul music at its most gospel-charged, her inspiring and uplifting music has empowered generations of people.
Perth Symphony Strings, rhythm section, and horns will grace The Astor Stage along with the incredible WAAPA Gospel Choir for the second time to celebrate the timeless songs of these two soul giants. Join us to experience their hits as you’ve never heard them before, performed by some of WA’s most remarkable young musicians.
